Gypsum | Organic Soil Conditioner & Calcium Sulfate Fertilizer
Improve soil structure and plant health with Gypsum, an organic soil conditioner rich in calcium sulfate, perfect for clay soils.
What is Gypsum?
Gypsum is a soft sulfate mineral composed of calcium sulfate dihydrate. Gypsum is high in both calcium and sulfur. In addition, the chemical formula of gypsum makes those nutrients more available to plants than some other common sources of these nutrients. Gypsum helps soil better absorb water and reduces erosion.
Gypsum will change soil pH very slightly, yet it can promote better root development of crops, especially in acidic soils, even without a big pH change. This is because the gypsum counteracts the toxic effect of soluble aluminum on root development.
Benefits of Gypsum
Gypsum helps soil better absorb water and reduces erosion. It also cuts down on phosphorus movement from soils to lakes and streams and improves the quality of various fruits and vegetables, among other benefits.
Drawbacks of Gypsum
Over-application of gypsum can strip essential nutrients from your soil, and this can harm plant growth. It can also strip out too much sodium from soils that are already low in salt.
How to use Gypsum
Use 1-2 tablespoons per gallon of soil or coco.
For foliar and spray applications, mix ½ – 1 tsp per gallon of water. Apply with even coverage directly to plant leaves. For soil drench applications, mix 1-2 Tbsp per gallon of water.
