What is Diatomaceous Earth?

Diatomaceous earth is a naturally occurring sedimentary material derived from the earth. It is comprised of microscopic skeletons of algae—referred to as diatoms—that have fossilized over millions of years. Diatomaceous Earth is notably high in silica and serves as a non-toxic method for controlling pests in the garden.

Benefits of Diatomaceous Earth

This product is effective against all insect pests that crawl on plants, as contact with the powder causes extreme dehydration. It helps eliminate various insects, including: aphids, thrips, ants, mites, earwigs, bedbugs, adult fleas, beetles, cockroaches, snails, slugs, and more!

Diatomaceous Earth possesses the ability to retain fertilizers and subsequently release them to the roots. When mixed with potting soil, it enhances drainage and air circulation within the root zone.

How to Use Diatomaceous Earth

Simply sprinkle it on the soil surface, around the bases of plants, under potted plants, or in other areas where pest insects are present.

Mix 1 to 3 tablespoons per gallon of soil.

For an organic insecticide spray, mix approximately 4-6 tablespoons of Diatomaceous Earth with each gallon of water. Pour the mixture into a spray bottle and shake thoroughly. Spray the leaves of your plants (both on top and underneath) adequately until they are moistened without heavy dripping.
